Is there anything better than summer nights in Boston when it comes to planning engagement photos? Add candles in the woods and I’d say you’ve got the perfect backdrop for a candlelit engagement session on a warm Boston night. I teamed up with styling genius Jessie from Older Ghosts for this session for our friends Nick and Mariah. We knew they wanted something moody and different so we came up with a candlelit cake picnic in the woods behind her house.
I do A TON of engagement sessions in the Boston area but this one was something else. I’m not saying I don’t love working in the city with all it’s history and amazing little spots, but as a creative, getting to really come up with a concept that speaks to who your couple actually are just makes my heart sing.
With 2000’s emo jams playing in the background, a good healthy covering of bug spray and more candles than a church and a very large amount of red roses we got to work creating the most perfect romantic altar for this session. As the sun dipped away we got weird with a cake smash but for grown ups. I’m a sucker for interesting light so as the candle light became our only source I felt truly in my element.
As an elder millennial/still a fully grown adult emo at 31 it’s safe to say, this one went down in the history books for me.
