Bride walking through street at sunset in Brooklyn

With spring finally here, and wedding season in the North East kicking off the escalation of the COVID-19 or Coronavirus situation is bringing forth a lot of chaos and confusion. Even on an every day level, we’re fighting over toilet paper at the grocery store so the added stress of planning a large event like a wedding during this time is daunting.

First thing’s first, make sure you’re keeping up to date with all announcements from the CDC  – they’re keeping an up to date website tracking the progress of the illness.

Also keep up to date with local government announcements regarding gatherings of people.

If your wedding day arrives and you’ve been given the go ahead to continue but you’re still a little worried there are a few simple measures you can take to ensure your event still runs safely.

– Openly communicate with your guests – ask that anyone showing symptoms or who might have been in contact with a confirmed case to stay at home for the safety of others, if they’re a VIP, maybe ask a friend or family member to get them on Facetime or sSkype for your ceremony so they still feel like they’re a part of the day.

– The store might be out of hand sanitizer, but there’s still travel sized bottles of soap – maybe you can pick up some extras for your guests to encourage vigorous hand washing.

– It’s a wedding day and the vibe is filled with excitement and love, but if you’re concerned about all those extra hugs you can ask your officiant to make an announcement that well wishes are welcome, but keep the hugs and kisses for later.

On the flipside, if your wedding day needs to be rescheduled due to Corona, start by getting in touch with your vendors early. Ask them what their rescheduling policy is and how you can work together when it comes to rebooking your wedding day. We’re here to work with you too and this is going to be just as hard on us as it is you because I guarantee we’re all excited to be a part of your wedding day.

Breathe, take a minute and know that we’re all in this together and we’re all going to be ok. Do what you need to in order to stay safe and healthy because I want you to have the best freakin’ wedding day EVER
